Goodbye May!

May is always so crazy busy!  But, yes we are still here and still surviving our crazy life.  The highlights of the last month and a half or so:

- JJ turned 6 years old!  He was so excited to be 6.  We had cake and ice cream for him when we were at my Grandparent's house for Easter.  He gets so excited whenever there is a gathering of people and when it's to celebrate him he is in heaven.  He couldn't even sleep the night before!
- While we are on the subject of JJ, he graduated from kindergarten about a week ago.  H absolutely loves school and apparently they love him, which knowing how "energetic" he can be, is very good news for his parents.  He can't wait to go to school all day and eat lunch at school.  JJ is very smart and has learned a lot this year.  He is an excellent reader.  On his end of year testing they said he tested at the level of a 1st grader in the 5th month of the school year in both math and reading.

- Aya finished 2nd grade last week.  She came home all proud because her teacher told her she is smart enough to skip third grade and just go straight to 4th grade.  On Aya's end of the year testing for math and reading she was way above average.  So far above that her score's came back as off the charts.  Literally, the charts they use for 2nd grade didn't go high enough to show her scores.  I'm so glad my kids do well in school and absolutely love it.

-Britton finished his first year of preschool.  He learned so much this year!  He can write his own name, count to 30, recognize all the letters and colors, and he made lots of new friends.  He wants to learn how to read more than anything, so maybe we'll work on that over the summer, even though he's a little young.

-Zach is all over the place.  He has learned quite a few words and his new favorite activity is climbing.  He climbs on everything!!  He climbed in his high chair by himself yesterday.  The problem is he has no fear whatsoever and will just keep going as high as he can with no regards to how safe it is.  The last month he has started going to bed all by himself and has done away with the pacifier.

-Jake finished spring semester with a 4.0!  He is amazing.  He went back to work for the IRS seasonally, but was furloughed on friday.  He has a job offer as a computer programmer that we are really excited about.  It will take him a while to start so we are hoping it all works out how it should.  He is now into Summer semester, taking 14 credit hours and so far maintaining his 4.0.

-I have just been working pretty much.  Softball season has started.  I am playing about 3 games a week.  I love it.  The bummer is that ever since November I have had tendonitis in my elbow and as of late it has spread to my wrist.  Of course it is on my right arm, which makes a lot of things very painful.  Whenever I swing the bat it feels like fire shooting up my arm.  But anyone who knows me well knows my arm would pretty much have to fall off before I'd stop playing.  And even then I would probably still try to play. :)  My CNA job is going well.  I really enjoy it.  I am taking a Nutrition class this semester and will be going full time in the fall.  Hopefully I can get into the Nursing program soon after.  I'm still teaching piano.  We had our spring recital on Thursday.  All of them did amazing!!  I love teaching and I love all of my students.  This is how I get so crazy busy, I love everything I do!  I have always been that way.  I remember when my parents made me narrow down my extracurricular activities when I was younger and it wasn't an easy decision.  I believe I was 11.  I haven't changed at all :)

Over all we're doing great and really looking forward to summer.  We've gotten out to the park a few times and enjoyed the sun.  Sometimes I wish we could just skip the next three years or so as far as school and new jobs etc. goes but I love every minute with my family and wouldn't want to miss anything.

Same Old, Same Old

So once again, we have been crazy busy this month!

I think we have been to the dr. every week this month.  It's pretty bad when they pull up our files the minute we walk in because they know me by name.

Between the 6 of us we have had Zach with another ear infection and finally getting tubes in his ears.  I had strep, Jake had strep.  Aya had an infection. JJ and Aya have both been coughing the last day or two and had fevers.  It's been so much fun!

We did have some fun stuff in March, too.  Jake's mom came from Georgia to visit because his sister, Rachael, went through the temple for the 1st time.  We got to go to Draper and have a lot of fun at Planet Play and she also stayed with us for a couple nights.  My kids were so excited they couldn't fall asleep!  It was really nice to get to spend time with her and the rest of Jake's family.

I started a CNA job.  I work a graveyard shift on Saturday nights at an assisted living facility in Layton.  I've only worked two weeks, but I LOVE it!  I wish they made enough that I could quit Harmon's and be a CNA full time.  Maybe eventually. :S

Jake started back at the IRS a few weeks ago.  He was working nights, but this week he switched to days.  I'm so glad he was able to switch!!  I hate going to bed without him here, plus the whole dinner/homework/bath/bed routine with just me and 4 kids is no easy task!  Jake also found out he got an academic scholarship for next year from the computer science department!!  He is doing amazingly well in school and we are so proud of him!  He is taking 14-16 credit hours per semester and is still able to pull mostly A's.  He's awesome!

Other than everyone having their turn being sick, we're doing great!

Aya and JJ had parent teacher conferences this month.  Aya reads at the level of a 4th grader, half way through the school year and her math level is at the level of a 3rd grader in the 8th month of the school year.  JJ is reading on the level of a first grader half way through the school year.  Both their teachers went on and on about how much they love having them in class and how good of students they are and how nice they are to all their classmates.  Knowing how energetic my kids can be, it's always good to hear that they are well behaved when we aren't around :)

Britton's preschool class got to go to Dinosaur Park on a field trip.  At first he was a little nervous.  He wasn't sure that the dinosaurs weren't going to come alive and eat him.  But, he settled down eventually and had lots of fun.

April isn't looking any less busy.  In fact it's finals for Jake and softball season starts, so we'll be even busier!  Good thing we like to be busy!

Happy 1st Birthday Zach!!

I can't believe my baby boy is 1!!  But 1 he is!

Zach's 1st birthday was Thursday, March 8th.  To celebrate we had all the family over for cake and ice cream and to open presents.  Zach got his own cake, which I think he really enjoyed digging in to.

Zach is one happy boy, most of the time.  He loves "talking" and playing with his brothers.  He can't wait to be big enough to join in when they are wrestling.  He absolutely loves Aya, she is his 2nd mom.

I'm 100% convinced Zach was sent to us to bring our family joy and happiness in a year that has been one of the toughest we've ever had.  We always knew there was at least one more baby waiting for us, but hadn't planned on him joining our family so soon.  He decided he was ready before we did. :)  But I honestly feel like Heavenly Father knew this year would be a tough one and we would need the joy that Zach brings to our family.  How can you not be happy when that chubby little face lights up with the biggest smile whenever he sees you?

(Ignore the dirty face please :))

Every day when I walk in from work Zach screams "MAMA!" and runs over with his fat little fingers stretched out ready to give me the biggest hug and kiss he can.  It makes my day every time.  I get disappointed when he's asleep when I get home.

Zach is a great little walker.  He loves food.  Any kind.  I have yet to find anything he won't eat.  He loves to play the Nintendo Wii and yells at anyone that tries to take the controller from him.  He loves books and cars.  Overall, he is just happy all the time.  He also LOVES the bath.  Whenever he hears the water he takes off running to the bathroom.  And if you don't let him get in he throws the biggest fit!

He has always been a great baby.  Hardly ever cries.  I play the piano in primary and a lot of the time he just sits on my lap while I play and he "sings" along.  My other kids never would have sat there without trying to play the keys.

He says a lot of words for only being a year old.  He's tall (93rd percentile) and loves to play with toys and his daddy.

This year has gone by super fast!  I love seeing my kids grow up and learn new things, but I always wish they wouldn't grow up so fast.  It seems to just be flying by.

Happy 1st Birthday Zachy - we love you!!

February - GOOD RIDDANCE!

So, I'm pretty sure February will not go down as my favorite month of 2012.  Actually, I'm hoping it is my least favorite cause that means the rest of the year will have to be better!  Just a short list of our February:

- Zach got his 7th & 8th ear infections

- On top of the ear infection he got a viral infection that caused a rash all over his body, including his face that blistered and scabbed over.  Yeah, it's cute!

- Britton has been sick for the last week with a horrible cough

- JJ also has a little bit of the rash.  I won't specify exactly where, but it is not very comfortable for him to sit down, which makes church a whole lotta fun

- Jake's car broke down.  The first report was "Timing belt, $550."  The second report "It messed up the engine, $1500."  The third report "It needs a new engine, $3,000."  So, considering we bought the car for $3500 seven years ago, we decided it isn't worth fixing.  So we are now down to one car till Jake finds another one.

All in all, February was exhausting!!

On the bright side, I passed my CNA certification tests!!  I got 96% on the written and passed (you either pass or fail) the skills test.  Too bad I make more at Harmons than if I went to be a full time CNA, but hey, it's my first step towards my goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

I Turned 30!

February 3rd was my 30th birthday!

And my friend, Shay (who has the most amazing blog ever), wrote a little challenge about sharing our life story or something.  So................

The Last 30 Years.......

I was born at 4:35am. Almost born in the truck.  I've never been a patient person :)
I had 1 brother at home (Brandon).  4 more siblings to follow (Heidi, Ryan, Ashley, Kyle).
We grew up in a little house in Hooper.  My mom "stayed home" although I remember her watching kids, working as the recess lady at our elementary school, working at the store by our house and many other odd jobs.
My parents are the best parents in the world.  I'm convinced that all the problems in the world would go away if everyone had parents like mine.  We weren't the richest family, but we didn't know that.  We were always loved and taken care of, that's what mattered.
When I think of my 1st memory, I remember almost dying when I was 3.  Brandon's fault.  I had a flag that I had gotten earlier from somewhere. Our house was so you could run in a complete circle on the inside.  Brandon was chasing me around the house and I put the flag in my mouth (that doesn't make it my fault).  I tripped and the flag stabbed the back of my throat.  We were being babysat and luckily when my parents got home the baby sitter told them about it because I woke up in the middle of the night really sick.  I ended up in the hospital with a really bad infection.  A Priesthood blessing and a few days later, I recovered.  What I remember most about the whole thing is waking up in the middle of the night and wanting to go sit on my dad's lap but I couldn't cause I had IV's in me.  I cried.  Total daddy's girl.  I also remember when I could actually eat, the first thing I ate was mashed potatoes cause they were my favorite.  And I remember the nurses trying to make me take a bath and there was no freaking way I was going to.
So, started preschool.  My mom made me a super cute gray jumper but made me wear a boys' dress shirt underneath and I was SO NOT HAPPY to wear a boys shirt.
I loved school.  From the 1st day of preschool till, well, today really.  I loved all of it.
In 1st grade I remember being sick and getting up and getting dressed trying to convince my mom I could go and sitting by the window bawling because I could see all the other kids walking to school and I had to stay home.
My 2nd grade teacher was Mr Peterson.  I loved him.  I used to ask him for homework because I always finished mine in school.  And I remember correcting papers for him.
All I remember about 3rd grade is puking in front of the whole school, and their parents.  I had a speaking part for the school Christmas program and I had told my mom before hand that I was sick but she just thought I was nervous.  We lined up to go on stage and my mom said if I felt sick then I should go sit down.  So I started to go sit down and she told me "Not right now!" and I barfed.  We were lined up on a ramp that was going down to the stage, so it ran down the ramp.  Good memories.
I was always busy in elementary.  I took dance and tumbling.  Jake doesn't believe me when I tell him I used to be able to do like 10 back handspring's in a row.  But I could.  I also played basketball and softball and like a year of soccer.  I also took piano lessons.
In 6th grade my parents made me choose just one activity.  I chose softball and that's when I started playing competitive.
So from the time I was 12 till I graduated high school I pretty much played softball 9 months of the year.  Pretty much every day we had either practice, a league game or a tournament.  Now that I have kids starting to get into activities I realize, my parents are awesome for sitting through hundreds of games.  A typical tournament we would play at minimum 4 games a day.  I think the most we played in one day was 7.  And I don't remember a tournament that both my parents weren't there.  I loved playing.
Jr. High I hung out with my BFF, Dixi.  We always had so much fun.  When we were in 7th grade and my big brother was in 9th grade she totally tackled him in the hall at school, in front of all his friends, while he was wearing his football jersey.  And she also pushed him into our back door hard enough it shattered the glass out of the window.
I wasn't a rebellious kid so my teen years aren't very entertaining.  In jr. high I was the honors president, on the accelerated readers committee, on the softball team and on the yearbook committee.  I think there was one semester that I didn't make the honor roll.
In high school I was on the softball team.  Dated lots of different boys, none of which lasted more than a couple dates. (I get bored easy).
Went to lots of football and basketball games.
Hung out with friends a lot.
I was a sophomore at Weber State before I graduated from Fremont.
Got an academic scholarship to Weber State University.
My senior year of high school I got my 1st job as a janitor at Farr West Elementary working with my best friend, Jenny.  We had a blast.
I also umpired baseball and softball games for Farr West Recreation.  That was the funnest job I have ever had.
Got a job at Dan's in Layton in November 2001 in the bakery.
Met my now husband, who actually made it past the first couple of dates.
Got married when I was 19!  Which, I never thought would happen.  In fact I think my friends in high school voted me as the one that would be the last one married.
Still worked at Dan's.
Got my Associate of Science degree in 2002.
Still worked at Dan's but I had moved out of the bakery and was the General Merchandise Assistant.
My boss, Alisha, was awesome.  We had more fun than we should have probably.
Had Aya in September of 2003.
Bought our 1st house in 2005 in Hooper.
Still at Dan's but became the receiving supervisor.
Had JJ in 2006.
Found out the most horrible thing in the world is seeing your tiny, newborn baby hooked up to machines helping him breath.  JJ had Group B Strep and was in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit for the longest 10 days of my life.
Still at Dan's but was the Assistant Grocery Manager for like 6 weeks and then I became the General Merchandise Manager and Shay was my assistant.  We had a lot of fun too.  Lots of late, long nights setting the promo aisle.  Then Markee became my assistant.  That girl is crazy, but we had a blast.
Transferred to Dick's in Bountiful as the Assistant Center Store Leader.  The day before I started I found out I was pregnant.
Became the GM manager at Dick's.
Had Britton in 2008.
Broke down and sobbed forever when they told me Britton was in the NICU.  It was awful having JJ in there.  And then to find out Britton had to be in there was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through.  Britton had pneumonia and was in the NICU for 12 days.
I also learned the comforting power of the priesthood.
Started at Harmon's in 2009 as the OTC manager.  After 2 months became the receiver.
Jake lost his job.
Had Zach in 2011.  Healthy boy, finally.
Sold our house 3 months ago and moved across the street.
Just finished a CNA class 2 weeks ago.

So that sums up the last 30 years!

I haven't really had a hard time with "the big 3-0."  A lot of people have told me it was a hard birthday for them because they looked at their life and felt like they hadn't accomplished anything.  I look at my life and even though I might not have accomplished a lot career wise or on a world level, I have had 4 amazing kids, I have strengthened my testimony of the gospel, I have been happily married for a little more than 10 years and to me those are all great accomplishments and the ones that really matter.

So there is more than you ever wanted or needed to know about me.

Galt Family Update

So not really much to update, but I am trying to update more often, like once every 3 months :)

The last 3 weeks I have been taking a CNA class.  I have decided in the summer I want to go back to school and apply for the nursing program for 2013.  My ultimate goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Acute Care and Surgery (so emergency room and operating room).  That is a while off, so right now I want to get into the program.  Getting my CNA certification is one of the steps to getting me there.  I have all my prerequisites done and received my Associate of Science Degree right before I had Aya so I don't have to take any generals.  I am going to take a few classes to refresh my memory cause it was 8 years ago or longer when I took those classes.  The nursing program is super competitive so I hope it doesn't take me forever to get in.  If I can get in fairly quickly I can get my R.N. within 2 years.

Jake is only taking 12 credit hours this semester, but they are pretty intense classes.  So far he has all A's.  He is really enjoying his classes.  They are all classes pertaining to his major.  He has a Web Development class that he really enjoys.  His ultimate goal is to get his Master's in Software Engineering and Game Development.

The kids are still doing great in school.  Aya and JJ got to go on a field trip to see "Puss In Boots" because they had good behavior and no missing assignments all quarter long.  The got to buy popcorn and everything.  They had tons of fun.

Britton loves preschool.  They had a long break because his teacher had a cute little baby boy in December and he was so anxious to go back.  They do a lot of fun things at preschool and he looks forward to going ever week.

Zach is walking all over the place and talking a lot.  He is getting a couple of new teeth, which means many nights of crappy sleep, but he's still a pretty happy baby.

So there is an update  A boring update, but an update :)

I Finally Admit It, I AM Crazy!

This week has been nuts!
I started my CNA class Monday night.  I really enjoy the class and so far have 100% on all the tests.

But,
getting home at 11PM every night
and getting up at 4AM every morning
makes for one tired ME!

I was fine the first couple nights but by friday it took lots of caffeine to keep me awake during class.  Well, not a lot really because I don't ever really drink caffeine, so about 1/2 a 20oz keeps me awake for hours.

Silly me thought seems I get off work at 1:30 I could go home and take at least a short nap before class, I just forgot that ever minute of my day is filled and planned out.

I know if I really wanted to I could work a nap in there
BUT
I can't justify me napping instead of cleaning the house before I leave, or making the family dinner before I leave (even though half the time I have to leave before they eat it), or not spending the few hours in the day that I can with my kiddos.

Plus, Jake watches the kids ALL DAY while I am at work so I feel too guilty coming right home and taking a nap.
And, it's hard to get 4 kids fed, bathed and in bed by yourself so I try to get their homework done, feed them, bathe them and in their pajamas before I leave.

So, yes, I am crazy for throwing in this class to my already busy life.  But, it doesn't mean I don't enjoy it or that I am going to change my mind about going back to school this year :)

I can totally see how I drive my husband insane.

But, lucky for me, he is an awesome dad and husband and 100% supports me in reaching my goals.  My kids love spending time with him and I love that every day they tell me about all the fun things they did and about the scriptures they read the night before.  I'm so glad Jake does that with them.

I really am enjoying the class.  I'm surprised at how much I remember from taking it before (Um..8 years ago).

The first few days it felt SO incredibly strange to be somewhere doing something for me and me alone.  I don't remember the last time that happened.  Even when I play sports I take some or all of the kids with me so it's not really a break cause I'm always watching them from the corner of my eye.   At work I'm always thinking about what they need to take to school or what they need to do this afternoon or wondering how Jake's day is going watching the boys.

But, having everything done as far as dinner etc. goes before I leave for my class and the class being so late that everyone is in bed a few hours before I get home means that I am not thinking about what is needing to be taken care of at home or with the kids.  I can just focus on the class and, like I said, the first few days it was really a strange feeling.  Like I was forgetting something. Now it's an enjoyable few hours a way. :)

So, that has been our life this week, and it's going to be even more insane the next two weeks or so, but it's all good.
